The Krabi Safari is a four or five day trip that starts at Ao Yon on Phuket Island. We pick the group up on their first day and spend the morning introducing them to the basics of sail management and crewing on a yacht. Lunch is ashore usually, but afternoons allow us to move on, in a rally of up to 10 yachts (depending on numbers).
We reach our island objective by late afternoon and the crew are by this time familiar with many of the vital components of the yacht. The afternoon is a fun trip and the students take an active part in every aspect of running a yacht. A BBQ or evening meal is prepared ashore and tents are erected for all or half the group (by arrangement). Evening activites are begun after the days debriefing and include night walks and nature treks. By ten o'clock its lights out for school parties and its amazing how quickly the students fall fast asleep. Sea air works a treat!
The second day starts with more training after a hearty breakfast. By twelve we are lunching on the boat and making ready to sail to Krabi. The camp site chosen is close to Thailands most famous climbing site. There are many serious climbing schools here and we can organize a half day of climbing and other activities on day 3. The afternoon is again when we set off, for our third camp site on the unspoilt island of Ko Yao Yai. We reach here by 6pm and again pitch camp and have a wonderful Thai buffet or BBQ (vegetarians catered for too). The island is remote from Phuket and a beach walk can be a wonderful evening activity if the group have any energy left.
Day 4 is either a further days training and afternoon cruise to Ko Naka or an early sail back to Ao Yon on Phuket Island (depending on if you have organized a 4/5 day adventure trip). The IYT International Crew Certificate can be one of the objectives of this adventure trip and fits in nicely with all the training and voyages that we do on this trip. Duke of Edinburgh awards and similar accreditation is also possible when we organize the trip and the planning. The outstanding natural environment of Krabi and Phang Nga is a delight for all to experience and the islands and marine life is evident in the National Marine Park.
