We begin at Ao Yon Bay on Phuket island, where we meet the group, allocate them boats and complete a safety briefing and a short lecture on rigging a boat and hoisting sails. The morning is a teaching session, usually about 2 hours long, and the afternoon is where we galvanise crew and sail en masse to the outlying islands. The students crew the yachts around the islands learning and enjoying the art of sailing.
Then we pitch camp on a beautiful tropical island, many of which are in the national parks, and enjoy a range of evening activities that add to their enjoyment and extend the adventure. Food is either a BBQ prepared by the island staff or a buffet meal. A bonfire can be made on the beach and a games theatre constructed.
Days two and three are spent learning more about boats, improving skills and enjoying the experience of gliding silently through water. Before lunch on day three we start our home passage making sure that we are well and truly ready for a safe homeward journey. |
